One of the best things about hydraulic motors is they can efficiently generate force and motion to move various loads. They are especially good when electrical power won’t be available or sufficient for the situation. To ensure the performance though, you need to use the right materials to make them. Titanium grade 9 forged bar is a really good choice. It has impressive mechanical strength but has more formability than grade 5.
How do they work?
You can find hydraulic motors in a massive array of vehicles. They are common in planes, cars, trucks, and more. In addition, they are crucial for plant like excavators. The fact they can deliver exceptional levels of torque makes them ideal for plant with tracks instead of wheels. Finally, you can also find them in systems like conveyors
All hydraulic motors work in a similar way. They effectively compress fluid to create power and then transform it into mechanical power. They get their name because the fluid can be water (hydro). However, it can also be oil and other fluids too.
What happens here is you have a pump and send compressed fluid to the motor. As it flows, the energy in the fluid moves gears, vanes, or pistons. In turn, this causes the shaft in the motor to turn. The shaft’s rotation is what produces the force to move loads.
Four types
As we said above, titanium grade 9 forged bar is a top option for hydraulics. You can use it to create different components for the various types of hydraulic motor.
Generally, there are four different motor designs. Firstly, we have gear motors. They can be slow or high speed (gear or epicycle gear). There are some impressive advantages with this design, including the fact they can be compact and easy to maintain. However, they also have a drawback in that they are typically not suitable for applications with high speed and low torque.
The second type is orbit motors. They have a massive benefit because they can deliver massive torque at slow speeds while still being compact. As a result, they are a common choice for construction and agricultural equipment.
Next we have vane motors. This is by far the simplest design. However, don’t let the simplicity fool you; they are effective for many uses, including vertical applications. Crucially, they can be small but deliver high torque at slow speeds. They are stable, well balanced, and tend to be quieter too.
Finally, we have piston motors. There are two types; radial and axial. The difference is in the arrangement of the pistons. Radial motors can generate more torque.
Do you want to order titanium grade 9 forged bar?
Brindley Metals understands how important it is to choose the right materials for any kind of product. It is especially important with things like hydraulic motors and components. They need to be durable to handle the tough operating conditions. Luckily, we have some of the finest products.
One that we recommend for hydraulics is titanium grade 9 forged bar. It has impressive mechanical strength thanks to the inclusion of aluminium and vanadium in the alloy. Its corrosion resistance is good too, able to resist chlorides and more.
A crucial thing to note is some people may prefer to use grade 18 titanium instead. It has a tiny amount of palladium in the alloy. As a result, it has the same mechanical properties as 9 but with better corrosion resistance. Most notably, it can resist oxidation at high temperatures.
